Lubrication

No lubrication is required for spherical plain bearings with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)-treated, steel-on-steel sliding surfaces used in applications with small amounts of applied load and oscillation velocity.

In other applications, bearings should be lubricated periodically with grease or oil, ideally with a Lithium soap base grease (NLGI consistency No. 2) containing MoS2. Shorter lubrication intervals are recommended during initial operations. Packing the space around bearings with grease will enhance sealing protection in applications subjected to high levels of dust, corrosion and contamination.

Most spherical plain bearings from BL can be relubricated through annular grooves and lubrication holes in the outer rings. Self-lubricating designs are also available.
